The Unofficial End of Summer is Near, Fishing is Getting Hot!

Posted by:

I am not sure where the summer went but it is about to go out and its going out in style!  Fishing has been nothing short of incredible the past week and it really doesn’t matter what we were chasing, the feed bag is on!  As the water cools, the fishing is going to get hotter and in my opinion, the Brainerd Lakes area has fallen under the radar for the fishing it actually has.  The lakes are teaming with ...

August Fishing Continues to be Solid in the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

If you are a multi species fisherman, this past week was the week you wish you would have been on the water.  We boated nine separate species of fish.  Walleyes continue to be very active on the weed lines as well as we are starting to see a few fish fall off into the deeper coon tail areas but the majority of the active fish are still being found in 10-18 feet in heavy weeds.  Muskies are on the prowl ...

Incredible Multi Species Fishing Happening in the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

What an amazing few weeks it has been here in the Brainerd Lakes Area.  It really doest matter the day the fish are biting.  Several lakes from small to large were hit, all with the same results…absolutely awesome fishing!

Brainerd Area Fishing
Walleyes have been going absolutely crazy on the weed lines as well as on shallow rock bars.  The weed line bite has been an all day thing with the walleyes using the weeds for shade and ambush points.  Trolling ...

Summer Patterns are in Full Swing

Posted by:

The beauty about the Brainerd Lakes Area is there never really is a time of the year where we have horrible fishing.  Even the “dog days of summer” can be absolutely awesome. We are still in early July but some of these warm temps have fishing patterns acting as if we were in August and that’s ok with me!

One phenomenon that I have been witnessing is a fairly strong and very shallow thermocline in even small lakes.  If my locator ...

Summer Patterns are Forming in the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

What an awesome week it has been for fishing in the Brainerd Lakes Area despite the rain we have been receiving.  Bass, crappies and bluegills have all in their post spawn patterns and walleyes are starting to transition into their mid summer patterns.

Brainerd Area Fishing Report
The bluegills have finished their spawn and have transitioned nicely to the weedy points and inside turns.  Fish have been fairly active at all times of the day.  Fishing a slip bobber ...

Brainerd Fishing is Holding On Despite the Weather

Posted by:

I am not sure whats the deal with Mother Nature this spring, but she sure seems to have it for us sportsmen and women!  The has been nothing short of crazy and in the last week we have seen ranges from the low 90’s for highs to the low 40’s for lows.  The lakes certainly didn’t need the big swing in temps with many of the sunfish family of fishes spawned out, currently or getting ready to spawn.

Despite the weird ...

Crappie and Bluegill are on Fire and Walleyes are Nocturnal in the BLA

What a wonderful weather weekend I. The Brainerd Lakes Area.  It sure was a pleasant experience weather wise.  The fishing was pretty dang good too if you put your work in.

I was a little shocked at the lack of active walleyes and pike during the day light hours. In fact we only hooked one pike all day.Walleye Continue Reading →

Plenty of Ice Left in the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

I am normally home for weekends but this past weekend was a little different.  I had the privilege to film an episode for Jason Mitchell Outdoors at Wekusko Falls Lodge in northern Manitoba targeting giant lake trout.  Fish up to 40+ inches seen day light and it is going to be an awesome episode to say the least!   I did get the chance to rip a few lips myself catching several walleyes and a really nice pike. Brainerd Area Lakes Have Turned Over and the Fishing Remains Excellent

What I really enjoy about this time of the year is the fish generally do the same thing each year.  If you have a waypoint from years past, it doesn’t matter what the species is, the fish will be there.  You can truly fish by memory and succeed, especially on the smaller lakes.

After a quick filming trip to South Dakota, on Thursday I was joined in the boat by ...
