Multi Species Fishing is Hot

Posted by:

Well, what an awesome first week of June it was in the Brainerd Lakes Area. It didn’t matter what we targeted, the fish were biting and biting hard. Thats what makes this area so great, there is about everything that swims in Minnesota within 30 miles of my front steps.

Walleyes
The walleye fishing was a mixture of daytime and nighttime bites depending on the lake we targeted. The smaller lakes with ample weed growth were definitely more ...

Memorial Day Weekend Preview

Posted by:

One thing is for sure in the Brainerd Lakes Area, our weather has been very unstable and on average very cool.  We are finding water temps anywhere from the upper 40s into the upper 50s depending on the lake.  This has had a couple effects on the fishing but for the most part fishing is still awesome. Fish are shallow, they are active and when you find them, they are fairly schooled up.

The Panfish are Going Ballistic in the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

In the past 2 weeks we have seen ice conditions drastically improve for lake travel. Auto travel is done but you can still access the lakes via ATV, UTV and snowmobiles. Some lakes do have some slush under the top layer of ice but for the most part, the lakes have sealed up with the cold temps at night. The best part about those low temps is they are keeping the accesses sealed as well.

The Unofficial End of Summer is Near, Fishing is Getting Hot!

Posted by:

I am not sure where the summer went but it is about to go out and its going out in style!  Fishing has been nothing short of incredible the past week and it really doesn’t matter what we were chasing, the feed bag is on!  As the water cools, the fishing is going to get hotter and in my opinion, the Brainerd Lakes area has fallen under the radar for the fishing it actually has.  The lakes are teaming with ...

Walleye Bite Continues in the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

The fishing has been nothing short of outstanding in the Brainerd Lakes Area in the last few days.  One thing that I really love about the area is we do not seem to get affected nearly as much by the dog days of summer as other areas do.  The big thing is to stay mobile and don’t get locked down on one location if the bite is off.  With over 400 lakes within 30 miles of my front steps, something is ...

August Fishing Continues to be Solid in the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

If you are a multi species fisherman, this past week was the week you wish you would have been on the water.  We boated nine separate species of fish.  Walleyes continue to be very active on the weed lines as well as we are starting to see a few fish fall off into the deeper coon tail areas but the majority of the active fish are still being found in 10-18 feet in heavy weeds.  Muskies are on the prowl ...

Incredible Multi Species Fishing Happening in the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

What an amazing few weeks it has been here in the Brainerd Lakes Area.  It really doest matter the day the fish are biting.  Several lakes from small to large were hit, all with the same results…absolutely awesome fishing!

Brainerd Area Fishing
Walleyes have been going absolutely crazy on the weed lines as well as on shallow rock bars.  The weed line bite has been an all day thing with the walleyes using the weeds for shade and ambush points.  Trolling ...

Summer Patterns are in Full Swing

Posted by:

The beauty about the Brainerd Lakes Area is there never really is a time of the year where we have horrible fishing.  Even the “dog days of summer” can be absolutely awesome. We are still in early July but some of these warm temps have fishing patterns acting as if we were in August and that’s ok with me!

One phenomenon that I have been witnessing is a fairly strong and very shallow thermocline in even small lakes.  If my locator ...

Excellent Fishing All Across the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

This past week has been simply an incredible week for fishing in the Brainerd Lakes Area.  We covered so many lakes including several new lakes and revisited a few from the past that we haven’t been to this year.  One thing was for sure, the fishing was nothing short of excellent everywhere and for everything we fished!

I must eat a little humble pie however.  Just like the weather this year, the bluegill spawn was a weird one.  We hit a ...

Summer Patterns are Forming in the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

What an awesome week it has been for fishing in the Brainerd Lakes Area despite the rain we have been receiving.  Bass, crappies and bluegills have all in their post spawn patterns and walleyes are starting to transition into their mid summer patterns.

Brainerd Area Fishing Report
The bluegills have finished their spawn and have transitioned nicely to the weedy points and inside turns.  Fish have been fairly active at all times of the day.  Fishing a slip bobber ...
