Brainerd Area Fishing

Summer Patterns are in Full Swing

Posted by:

The beauty about the Brainerd Lakes Area is there never really is a time of the year where we have horrible fishing.  Even the “dog days of summer” can be absolutely awesome. We are still in early July but some of these warm temps have fishing patterns acting as if we were in August and that’s ok with me!

One phenomenon that I have been witnessing is a fairly strong and very shallow thermocline in even small lakes.  If my locator ...

Excellent Fishing All Across the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

This past week has been simply an incredible week for fishing in the Brainerd Lakes Area.  We covered so many lakes including several new lakes and revisited a few from the past that we haven’t been to this year.  One thing was for sure, the fishing was nothing short of excellent everywhere and for everything we fished!

I must eat a little humble pie however.  Just like the weather this year, the bluegill spawn was a weird one.  We hit a ...

Summer Patterns are Forming in the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

What an awesome week it has been for fishing in the Brainerd Lakes Area despite the rain we have been receiving.  Bass, crappies and bluegills have all in their post spawn patterns and walleyes are starting to transition into their mid summer patterns.

Brainerd Area Fishing Report
The bluegills have finished their spawn and have transitioned nicely to the weedy points and inside turns.  Fish have been fairly active at all times of the day.  Fishing a slip bobber ...

Brainerd Fishing is Holding On Despite the Weather

Posted by:

I am not sure whats the deal with Mother Nature this spring, but she sure seems to have it for us sportsmen and women!  The has been nothing short of crazy and in the last week we have seen ranges from the low 90’s for highs to the low 40’s for lows.  The lakes certainly didn’t need the big swing in temps with many of the sunfish family of fishes spawned out, currently or getting ready to spawn.

Despite the weird ...

We are Ice Free in the Brainerd Lakes Area and the Fish are Biting!

Posted by:

What a strange year for ice off it has been.  a week ago last Friday I was walking on solid ice pounding a spud bar as hard as I could and I thought there was no way the ice was going to be gone.  Fast forward four days, the ice was GONE!  Then lets fast forward to this past Saturday and the water temps were 52.8 when I got on the water and was up to 54.1 when I left. ...

Ice is Starting to Decline in the Brainerd Lakes Area

Posted by:

I did a bunch of driving around today and visited 10 different lakes and the ice is in various conditions.  But what really confused me is some of the lakes that normally have the earliest ice out have solid ice all around them yet and some of the larger lakes have had shores open up.  I am done trying to understand this year!

What I found was Lower South Long Lake had a large amount of shoreline that was open.  This ...

Whitefish Chain

Posted by:

Last Wednesday, my wife and I headed up to the Whitefish chain to spend time on the water relaxing, talking and enjoying our wedding anniversary. Of course being the guy that I am, I can’t go anywhere without my fishing rods if the boat is hooked up!

We started fishing about 5 PM pulling crawler harnesses with in-line weights over the deep basin of the lake. We targeted the 40 to 50 foot range in water that was from 80 to ...
